There are many parts but one body and when each part performs its function effectively, the whole body operates optimally.

Similarly, the success of the church is ultimately determined by the concerted efforts of the pastor(s) and church workers.

Much like any corporate organization worth its salt, there are qualities that make specific candidates suited for various positions. Today, we’ll take a look at 8 essential qualities that make you best suited for the position of a church worker.

1 – Be Born Again
Giving your life to Christ and accepting him into your heart as your Lord and Saviour is the first thing that qualifies you to serve in the capacity of a church worker. This is because if you do not acknowledge God’s existence, are not surrendered and completely devoted to him, you cannot truly serve him.

2 – Have an Intimate Relationship with God
It is crucial to remember that as a Christian and a church volunteer or worker, you are first and foremost serving God. Without having an intimate, continuing relationship with God, you cannot minister to him or others effectively.

3 – Have a Good Grasp of the Bible
The primary responsibility of a church worker is service – to God, the body of Christ and humanity. To be able to serve effectively, it becomes pertinent that you are conversant with scripture and have a solid comprehension of it in order to present yourself approved unto God and effectively communicate the truths of his word to others.

In a similar vein, you can navigate through life more gracefully when you comprehend God’s word.

4 – Be Full of the Holy Spirit and Wisdom
Your life will reflect that of Christ, and your service will have a significant and lasting influence and transformative effect on others when you are filled with the Holy Spirit and wisdom. This is due to the fact that those you serve will be led to God as they witness God’s character and nature clearly displayed in your life.

5 – Have a Good Reputation
Without possessing good character and leading a holy life, you cannot serve effectively as a church worker. This is because in contrast to human doings, the church is made up of human beings. For this reason, you must show the utmost respect to the people you serve.

The Bible says in Proverbs 22 vs 1 MSG that, “A sterling reputation is better than striking it rich; a gracious spirit is better than money in the bank”. This underscores the fact that in the world of service, your reputation is more valuable than your position or wealth.

6 – Dependability
Can we count on you to always be available?
Can we rely on you to get the job done creatively, efficiently, innovatively and wholeheartedly?
Can we depend on you to take the initiative and fill in the gaps where necessary?

Please realize dear church worker, that if you are not dependable, you cannot be effective.

7 – Be Teachable
Humility is the bedrock of service because it makes you teachable, and teachability sets you up for greatness. To stay effective in service, you must be ever learning, ever evolving, and ever adaptable as no matter how highly placed you are in the hierarchy of leadership as a church worker, you are neither perfect nor immune to learning.

8 – Possess Excellent Relational Skills
Consider yourself a member of the body as a church worker. While serving, you will collaborate with other parts of the body and as you interact with them, it is important that you do so in a way that fosters goodwill.

For the church’s vision and mission to be fulfilled, it is incumbent upon you to be an invaluable teamnplayer.

Dear church worker, ultimately, God is the rewarder of your service so serve with your whole heart as unto the Lord.
